Is This Really a UK Storytime?

We went to our local library for the Friday morning story time. This particular story time would be a special treat, since the planned craft was cupcake decorating. Originally we wore jackets when we left in the cool morning, but the day was so nice that we soon shed our coats and sweaters and enjoyed the blue skies and mid to high 70s degree Fahrenheit weather (that's mid-20s Celsius).

We arrived a little late. The lady at the front desk said that the story time was across the street at a picnic table, where everyone could enjoy the sunshine and nice weather. We returned our books and crossed the street to hear the stories and make cupcakes.

While we were there, one of the other librarians came out with a little digital camera and took our picture. He said, "This is a pretty rare occurrence, having story time outside in September." Everyone was enjoying themselves quite well. Jacob could wander off a little bit and not drive me crazy by leaving the room.

Having the story time outside also worked well for the cupcake decorating. These cupcakes weren't pictures or cardboard cutouts, but real cupcakes. We had icing in tubes and sugar sprinkles to decorate with. I helped Lucy draw a circle with the black icing tube. Then we made some eyes and a nose and mouth inside the circle. With the yellow tube, we made hair and, voila!, a self-portrait. Unfortunately, I did not think to bring the camera and Lucy was not interested in bringing the cupcake home. She ate it right away. She also left a lot of crumbs, which would have been bad inside the library but worked out nicely outside.

Jacob was assisted in making a large J on his cupcake. He did want to take his home to show to Mommy. Unfortunately, it was left on the roof of the car when we drove away. We didn't think of it again till we were halfway home, which was far too late to save the cupcake.

We will plan ahead next time (I suppose I should just travel with the camera all the time) and be more cautious with precious cargo in the future (though I probably shouldn't put the cupcakes in the car before the children).
