Book Review: Witchfinder Vol. 2: Lost and Gone Forever by Mike Mignola et al.

Witchfinder Volume 2: Lost and Gone Forever written by Mike Mignola and John Arcudi, art by John Severin

Sir Edward Grey, Witchfinder, travels from London to the Reidlynne, Utah, in 1880. The town features a burned-down church and the worst hospitality ever. Grey is there to find a man named Glaren but gets pulled into other problems. He has to shoot his way out of town after asking some fairly normal questions at the saloon. He's befriended by Morgan Kaler, a local who knows enough about the area to guide Grey. They strike up an uneasy partnership which leads them into a strange Native American/Christian cult led by a spooky blonde woman who clearly has ulterior motives. Horror and mystery ensue.

The book has many interesting points. The art is very different for the Hellboy/B.P.R.D. series though it fits well with the late 19th century Wild West. The story itself is a little convoluted but wraps up nicely. I enjoyed the book but was not wowed by it.
