Book Review: Alcatraz Versus the Knights of Crystallia by Brandon Sanderson

Alcatraz Versus the Knights of Crystallia by Brandon Sanderson

Alcatraz Smedry finally makes it to the Free Kingdoms where he was born and his extended family lives. The glass-powered mechanical bird that is transporting him explodes before it lands, causing all sorts of chaos. He and the crew survive, only to discover that the Free Kingdoms are negotiating a peace treaty with the Evil Librarians. Alcatraz gets drawn into political intrigues that are actually interesting (so not The Phantom Menace). Alcatraz also discovers that he is a major celebrity in the Free Kingdoms. Popular fan fiction has him defeating all sorts of baddies with all sorts of improbable devices. He just drinks it in, fueling his ego in not the best ways. The story goes through the usual intrigues and action, with plenty of narrative asides by Alcatraz.

This is more of the same fun that was in the first two books (see here and here). It's a light-hearted and quick read full of fun.

Recommended.
