Book Review: Clobberin' Time by S. Skroce et al.

Clobberin' Time writing and art by Steve Skroce and color art by Bryan Valenza

The Thing (the rocky guy from The Fantastic Four), aka Benjamin Grimm, has a five-part adventure with a bunch of guest stars, beginning with the Hulk. Ben has come in conflict with a time-traveling adversary called Psychopomp. Psychopomp's grand scheme causes a lot of problems for everyone. A renegade Watcher, Tuvah Tu, narrates the action before he gets sucked into the story as well.

While Ben Grimm is a favorite character (Marvel used to put out a comic called "Marvel Team-Up" which was usually Ben Grimm plus another hero), the execution here is not as entertaining as I would have liked. Ben was an astronaut and the pilot on the space trip that exposed him and the rest of the Fantastic Four to the radiation that gave them superpowers. So he's not as dumb as he is often portrayed. He vacillates between dumb and smart in this story arc which I thought was not good. The story is very over-the-top, which I like, especially with his final team-up partner--Doctor Doom!

Mildly recommended.
