Every year, the Ellicott City Volunteer Fire Department puts up a Christmas train display that draws many visitors. We went to visit and enjoyed both the trains and a vintage fire truck.
The set is in a very large room with lots of delightful details.
One end of the set has the enchanted wonderland, where a lot of fairy tales and Disney cartoons can be seen. This part of the display is lower so little children (like my prescholar) can see easily.
Back on higher ground, I was delighted by a Chanukah spot with the menorah and some dreidels.
Some of the models are based on actual places.
I really wanted to visit this dance hall that features dancing on the roof. The dancers actually moved around!
The display had so many trains that some were hung from the ceiling!
This town square looked circular to me.
They even had a miniature billboard advertising the train display!
Across the hall was a vintage fire truck.
The truck is a 1929 American LaFrance 750 G.P.M. pumper. It was purchased for $12,000, though the fire department traded in a 1924 model for $4,000 in credit toward the latest model. The engine was giving the number 21 and served until October 9, 1961. A private citizen bought it. The volunteer fireman's association bought it back in 1992 and restored it.
The visit was great, everyone enjoyed it.
