BRZRKR: Bloodlines created by Keanu Reeves, written by Steve Skroce and Mattson Tomlin, illustrated by Steve Skroce and Rebekah Isaacs, and colored by Dave Stewart and Dee Cuniffe
The undying, raging fighter called Unute the Berserker has two adventures. First, he visits Atlantis where his talent for violence is put to the ultimate test when some priests summon Cthulu. The battle is so epic, it's a harbinger for the downfall of many. In the second story, a noseless woman shows up at a monastery where history is written down for posterity. She tells the story of her civilization and how it came to ruin through dealings with Unute. She's the last of her people and does not want them to disappear from history.
The second story is more interesting than the first. The plot is more involved and has some nice twists that make it narratively satisfying. Both stories are soaked in blood and violence, to a level where it is not enjoyable. This novel is very graphic and would be hard to take even for some adults. It's unclear what Reeves' contribution is to the story, other than lending his looks for Unute, who is a very destructive character. I sort of enjoyed it but probably won't read it again.
Barely recommended.
