Cool Stuff Around the Net

Here's some cool stuff you can find on the 'net!

Congrats to Sean from Just a Catholic Dad for his eleventy-first podcast! I don't remember half his podcasts half as well as I should like and I like less than half his podcasts half as well as they deserve. By which I mean to say he's really good and you should give him a listen.

A wonderful discussion of the classic Western The Magnificent Seven is available on A Good Story is Hard to Find podcast. I forgot how quotable that movie is: "I've been offered a lot in my life but never...everything." "We deal in lead, friend." "We don't need that man with the scar, we need the man who gave him that scar!" etc.

A series on Tarot cards, debunking the magic/fortune telling and looking at the games people played with them, can be found beginning here.

A cool video explaining the whole United Kingdom/Great Britain/England confusion:

h/t to my friend Brian for this!

Some pics worth sharing--sadness for Doctor Who and silliness for Bruce Campbell:

If you eat this, you might get possessed by a Kandarian demon!

More Family on JACD

My sister has a bit on the latest Just a Catholic Dad episode. She recorded a Sixty-Second Saint about St. Maria Francesca, patron of Naples, Italy. Don't know who she is? Go check it out! She's at about 39 and a half minutes. But listen to the whole episode, because it's great!

Again on JACD

I'm on Just a Catholic Dad again! This time I provide an audio report on a recent beer festival I went to. We had joked earlier that I should be a beer correspondent for the show, now it is actually happening! He is glad to take submissions from others (even about cider and perry!), so don't feel shy if you have a microphone and a favorite brew.

My report is about 41 minutes into the show (available here), but you should listen to the whole thing because it is great!

Zombie Parent on a Podcast

With the kids in school, I've finally got the audio recording equipment out. The latest episode of Just a Catholic Dad features a clip from me. The show has an occasional segment called "Sixty-Second Saint" and I recorded a minute on St. Bernardino of Siena, whose church I visited back in Verona. Check it out!

Also Forgotten Tales on the Forgotten Classics podcast will return shortly. I am excited about picking that up again. The long awaited tale from Hans Christian Andersen, The Nightingale, is first on the queue.

Shout Out Echo: Just a Catholic Dad

We (by we I mean the blog) got mentioned on one of my favorite podcasts, Just a Catholic Dad, a podcast about faith, fatherhood, and family. Sean McCarney chronicles his life as an air traffic controller, husband, and father to a wonderful four-year old girl. He is Catholic, his wife is not. He tells of his challenges and rewards as he  raises his daughter in the Faith. His sense of humor is wonderful and I highly recommend you listen to the show. Even if you aren't Catholic or a father or interested in air traffic control, he makes them all interesting and keeps you coming back for more. Plus he's a native here in the UK and has lots of stories about that (and an awesome accent, too!).

Check it out here.
