Book Review: Amulet Book Nine: Waverider by Kazu Kibuishi

Amulet Book Nine: Waverider by Kazu Kibuishi

The saga of Amulet, where an Earth family travels to a distant planet (or is it an alternate dimension?) and has fantastic adventures, comes to a conclusion. Daughter Emily has been traveling alone, dealing with a great temptation to use her powers at the behest of an evil entity called Ikon. She struggles the most both with her powers (granted by the titular amulet) and her destiny. Her mother and brother are fighting the good fight which appears to be a losing battle with the shadow forces of Ikon. Other Stonekeepers like Emily are searching for ways to defeat the darkness and restore the people and their shattered towns.

The narrative has a lot of threads that need tying up, with a large cast of characters and many locations. The author gives satisfactory conclusions to them all though I felt some were rushed through to their ending. The art is still great and I liked the characters a lot but there might have been too much to resolve. Still, it makes a nice, if not grand, finale.

Recommended, but read the other eight first!
