Oxford has two rivers running through it--the Isis and the Cherwell. Outside of Oxford, the River Isis is called the River Thames. A quick history of the quirk is on Wikipedia. Boats can be hired on either for leisurely cruising, which is just what we did.
The cruise was very peaceful and idyllic with not many sights to see. We just enjoyed the water and the quiet afternoon.
We also walked along the river. Some of the universities back up to the water and they have nice gardens with walking paths accessible to non-students.
